Dental caries is an infectious disease which first affects the enamel of the tooth and which is favored by the presence of dental plaque. A cavity then digs into the tooth and becomes deeper and deeper. In the absence of care, decay ends up damaging the dentin which is the layer under the enamel and causes pain, especially with hot, cold or sweet foods. The pain becomes intense when it reaches the pulp of the tooth. It's a toothache. Finally, a dental abscess can appear when bacteria attack the ligament, bone or gum.
The goal of caries treatment is to restore the integrity of the tooth that has been damaged.
We opt for the most effective and durable technique which consists of treating teeth by eliminating cavities using a bur. The treatment is done under local anesthesia.
Once the decay has been eliminated, the very damaged or dilapidated part of the tooth is reconstituted using different processes, for example with composite resins of different shades, very resistant and aesthetic.
Also called endodontics, devitalization consists of treating the root of the tooth and extracting the pulp. The dental pulp is the innermost part of the tooth which contains the nerves that transmit pain signals, and other elements such as blood vessels necessary for the life of the tooth.
Once devitalized, the tooth is no longer alive. This treatment is sometimes necessary, particularly when a cavity is very deep, for example, or in the event of trauma. This helps prevent the appearance of infections and treat toothache.
The dentist extracts the dental pulp, and therefore the nerve, using files. This is carried out under radiographic control to verify that the treatment is carried out to the tip of the root. The dental canals are then meticulously cleaned and filled with a sterile biocompatible material to seal the pulp chamber.
This is generally carried out in three sessions depending on the condition of the canal system and the number of canals. Root treatment is sometimes complex, because the dental canal can be narrow, calcified, branched.
Endodontics is a specialty of dentistry, which requires attention to detail, finesse, and specific equipment allowing the devitalization of the affected tooth.
In very complex cases requiring intervention under a microscope, we refer the patient to an endodontic specialist.
